The most important thing is to be comfortable with the bass it comes with and realize that the amp is pretty much useless if you plan on playing with other people (drums etc.) Personally, I would recommend either Ibanez- they are pretty easy to play and their cheaper instruments are still pretty good quality. Next, I would say ESP, but you should definitely try to play as many as you can before you buy one. These packages are a good value if you are practising by yourself or taking to lessons.
